Dr. Maibenco graduated with honors from Wheaton College. He attended medical and graduate school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He went on to complete his surgical residency at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI and a surgical oncology and endoscopy fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York. Dr. Maibenco is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Illinois State and American Medical Associations.

Dr. Maibenco has a broad training and interest in endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery. He has special expertise in cancer screening and the surgical care of patients with cancer. He has been nationally recognized for his interest in cancer care.
