Post Operative Instructions for Endoscopic Cholecystectomy

Keep wound dry for 24 hours.

You may remove the outer dressing after 24 hours. Leave the steri-strips on the wound until they fall off, or they will be removed by the doctor in the office.

Keep the wound dry for 24 hours. You may then get the wound wet, as in a shower, but do not submerge it under water, as in a pool or tub. Pat the area dry.

Call the office, 428-6300, after your surgery to make a one week follow-up appointment.

Call the office, 428-6300, if you develop any signs of infection: redness, pus-like drainage, or fever of 101 or higher.

You may experience pain in the right shoulder area. This is caused by the carbon dioxide used to inflate the abdomen during the procedure. This is a normal reaction and it will resolve in a couple of days.

Narcotic pain medications can cause constipation. Use Milk of Magnesia as needed for constipation.

Use Advil, or any Ibuprofen product for pain. If you were given a prescription for pain medication, follow as directed. If you did not receive a prescription please call the office if one is needed.
